Columbia University
Columbia University was founded in 1754 in the name of King’s College, royal charter of George II of Great Britain. In July 1754, Samuel Johnson held the first classes in a new schoolhouse adjoining Trinity Church, located on what is now lower Broadway in Manhattan. There were eight students in the class back then, but now obviously their is much more! After the American Revolutionary War though, it's name was changed to Columbia College. It is one of the oldest universities in the state and the fifth oldest in the country. Columbia is ranked as the second largest landowner in the city, and has one of the best education.
The university counts three former presidents who are Alexander Hamilton, Theodore Roosevelt, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt as well as Barack Obama among its graduates, in addition their is also famous political and literary figures like John Jay, Langston Hughes, and Jack Kerouac.
